An original Diet Coke goes along perfectly with some Memphis BBQ, but we wanted to see which one of the new flavors would pair with all that smoky, tangy goodness. Which new flavor do you think it will be?
We recently set out on an adventure in Memphis with Diet Coke to find out what people think about their new flavors. We’ve already been to Downtown Memphis getting people to complete the most difficult challenges ever to taste one of the new flavors, so we decided to show Diet Coke what Memphis does best: Barbecue. Every region of the country has a different style of barbecue, but nobody travels from far and wide to any other place but Memphis just to try the barbecue. Heck, we basically have an entire week-long festival dedicated to smoking meats and making sauces, and it brings in people from all over the world. So we know what Downtown Memphis thinks about the new flavors, but what happens when you pair the new flavors with some delicious Memphis barbecue?
Diet Coke’s New Flavors
Diet Coke recently released four new flavors: Zesty Blood Orange, Twisted Mango, Feisty Cherry and Ginger Lime. All four of the new flavors are pretty tasty, but our adventure wouldn’t be complete without finding out which one of these new flavors paired up best with not only the smokiness of the meats, but also the tang and sweetness of Memphis BBQ sauce. Instead of giving you only our opinions, we decided to ask both some customers and employees of One and Only BBQ in Memphis.
When we asked the customers what they thought of the new flavors, they loved how each one of them accompanied their meals. Because we let the customers choose the flavors they wanted to try, we couldn’t get a consensus on which one was the best with Memphis BBQ, we decided to put the employees to the test and let them try all of them with a big barbecue feast. After trying all the flavors, it seemed Twisted Mango was a very close second place because of how it accompanied the barbecue nachos with jalapenos. However, the winner everyone agreed on was the new Feisty Cherry flavor, because of the way it went both the sauce and the smoky flavor of the meat.
