How Does a Two-Headed Snake Function?

It’s not something you see every day. We’re talking about a two-headed snake.

two headed black rat snakeThe snake is taking refuge at the Conservation Nature Center in Cape Girardeau.

Heartland Weekend’s Nichole Cartmell got a close-up look at the reptile. She says in her case, it was one of those things you couldn’t help but stare at.

The snake was brought to the nature center in 2005 after a young boy found the creature lurking in his backyard in Delta, Mo.

Chances are good it wouldn’t have survived if left in the wild.

In case you’re wondering, yes, both heads can function. Each side has a brain.

In a captive situation where it’s able to be cared for and observed, this snake provides valuable insight into this unique condition.

Besides the research value, visitors have a chance to see a very unique snake.

All ages are welcome at the Conservation Nature Center. Besides the snake, you’ll find a whole host of interactive exhibits, some more creepy crawlers, as well as native fish.
