Spicy Pigskin Candy: Everything your Tailgate Needs

Spicy Pigskin Candy is the perfect combination of salty, spicy and sweet, in one delicious snack.  This tailgating recipe is sure to make an impact at your next gathering. Spicy Pigskin Candy makes 2 dozen.

Spicy Pigskin Candy Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 8 thick cut bacon slices

Time to Cook

Cut the back into thirds. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Stir the brown sugar, red pepper flakes, and ground pepper together in a small bowl. Place the bacon on a lightly greased rack over a foil-lined half sheet pan. Brush the bacon with half of the syrup & sprinkle with half of the sugar mixture.

Bake for 15 minutes.

Turn the bacon & brush with the remaining syrup & sprinkle with the remaining sugar mixture. Bake an additional 15 minutes or until crisp.

Cool for 30 minutes.

Optional Grilling Instructions: For added smoky flavor, place the sheet pan of prepped bacon pieces on the grill over Medium heat 10 minutes. Carefully remove the sheet pan from the grill using heavy-duty grilling oven mitts. The pan will be extremely hot. Proceed with the baking & additional recipe instructions as directed.
