Liquid nitrogen cocktails? Jerald Smith is known around Louisville as the S.T.E.A.M. Chemist. And you can find him at local bars and events all around the city, putting a special twist on drinks.
Smith uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the drinks. It’s quite a show!
“Liquid nitrogen is -321° fahrenheit, so it flash-freezes the margarita mix and changes it from a liquid state to a solid state.” Smith said.
But, it’s not just about the fun for the S.T.E.A.M. Chemist. He’s actually a STEM instructor, who likes to find cool ways to teach people about science.
He also owns Nice Cream, a mobile ice cream company for parties and events.
“Most of the people in these bars have kids or have some type of connection to the community,” Smith said. “So they can extend back to the other services I provide, which are the STEM education and ice cream making.”
