There’s a hidden Air Force base in Myrtle Beach

Some people may not know Myrtle Beach was once home to an Air Force base. We caught up with a retired Air Force Colonel on the history of the base.

What we now know as a booming destination for shopping, dining and entertainment, the Market Common was once home to the Myrtle Beach Air Force base.  Retired Air Force Colonel Joe Barton says it was the best place to be stationed and still calls the area home.  As you drive through the area today, it becomes abundantly clear that the City of Myrtle Beach wanted the Air Force base to live on throughout the area.  Warbird Park, plaques in memory of Veterans, and streets named after those who served are just a few of the ways the it still lives on today.

Come along with us as we take a look at the history of the base.
