Flamingos in the Lakes = Mardi Gras in Baton Rouge

Find out how the highly anticipated Mardi Gras tradition got started in Baton Rouge

You can find lots of wildlife around the LSU lakes year-round. However, during Mardi Gras season, a flock of flamingos appear for one day only and can disappear before you know it! All courtesy of one of Baton Rouge’s most popular krewes, the Krewe of Spanish Town. We caught up with Spanish Town board member, Robert King, to learn how the tradition got started and why it continues to this day.

We’d bet you didn’t know that giant pink flamingos signify Mardi Gras in Louisiana’s capitol city.  Well now you do.
