It's award-winning for a reason.
Skyline Burrito Bowls is the go-to place to grab a burrito bowl (or normal burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tacos, taco salads and more) in Lufkin, Texas. And you don’t have to take our word for it. They are the recipients of the ‘Best Burrito’ award through the Lufkin News … among other delicious accolades.
And you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu because you customize it exactly how you want it.
Similar to other burrito bar-type restaurants, step one is deciding what you want, whether it’s tacos, nachos, a quesadilla, burrito bowl, etc. Then you just choose which ingredients you want on it. You can choose between a Mexican rice or cilantro lime rice. For beans you can choose between refried beans, charro beans or black beans. Their meats include mama’s brisket (which is marinated for 2 days then smoked for 10 – 11 hours), cilantro lime chicken, fajita steak, ground beef, pork (al pastor), or regular chicken. Then toppings include tomatoes, onions, lettuce, cilantro, guacamole, salsa and more.
When we sat down with the owner, Tavo Velazquez, to talk about what makes the family-owned Skyline Burrito Bowls so popular he was very quick to attribute to his faith. Tavo said it all started years ago through his faithfulness to pay tithes.
A few years ago, Tavo was praying, asking God for guidance in his life. He had a steady job, but God had different plans. Plans that involved fresh ingredients, and a few delicious burritos.
Tavo was called to leave his job and open Skyline Burrito Bowls in the Lufkin Mall. Within 90 days of opening the business they were debt free; fast-forward to now and they’re in a stand-alone building serving up smiles to the East Texas community.
Skyline Burrito Bowls is located at 409 North Timberland Drive in Lufkin. They’re open from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Saturdays.
