25th Anniversary of the Movie “Tombstone”

Tombstone celebrates the release of the iconic movie and the plight of the Buffalo Soldiers.

Did you know that the movie “Tombstone” is 25 years old?  Recently, the real-life town held several action packed events celebrating Freedom Days, Tributes to the Buffalo Soldiers and the 25th Anniversary of the movie “Tombstone.”

On Friday, June 29, former Congressman, retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and author of “Guardian of the Republic” Allen West led a discussion on the Second Amendment and the importance of the Buffalo Soldiers in American History.


Saturday-Sunday, June 30-July 1, select actors from the movie “Tombstone” took part in panel discussions, a parade, autograph-signing sessions and the screening of “Tombstone.”

Actors who were in attendance include:

Billy  Zane, who played Mr. Fabian in “Tombstone,” as well as iconic roles in “The Phantom” and “Titanic.”

Michael Biehn played Johnny Ringo in “Tombstone” as well as roles in “Aliens,” “Terminator,” “Planet Terror” and many other movies.

Others include Frank Stallone, who played Ed Bailey; Peter Sherayko, who played Texas Jack Vermillion; Dana Wheeler-Nicholson, who played Mattie Earp; and Joanna Pacula, who played Kate.


Crew members were also in attendance, including “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke. Hardwicke, who designed the set for “Tombstone,” judged the costume contest.

The majority of the movie was filmed at the Mescal location of Old Tucson Studios. It’s located at 1538 Drive Way, Benson, AZ 85602, about 45 minutes from Tombstone, but you could stop by on your way to Tombstone.
